Earlier this psalm confesses that Israel’s victories in battle came not by “their arm” but by “your arm.” God has so ordered creation that the innately powerless have access to power. 8:3–8 / In the body of the psalm, eyes are cast first towards your heavens, “above” (or probably “on”) which “you have set your glory” (as noted in the introductory verse). They are awe inspiring to ancients and moderns alike, yet to God they are simply the work of his fingers.
